Things to do when renting a villa in Moraira

Moraira bay

Moraira is a town steeped in history with a picturesque setting of white villas amongst the green pines of a Mediterranean resort. The town is known for it’s safe sandy beaches and rocky coves, but there is also an abundance of cafés and bars along the sea front. Along the coast road towards Benissa you will find many restaurants and the drive offers breathtaking views across the Teulada valley.

Moraira Beaches

Platja de l'Ampolla is Moraira's main beach and is only a short walk away from the centre and just 500m from the fish market. Another attractive beach is Platja del Portet which is 1.5km north of the centre. This is one of the quieter Mediterranean resorts, with golden sand, turquoise waters, cafés and bars overlooking the beach.

To the south south there are a number of sandy and rocky coves taking you towards the resort town of Calpe which sits at the foot of the mountains and iconic Ifach rock. This unique geological structure straddles Calpe’s two extensive white sand beaches which are bordered by bustling bars and restaurants.

A great way to experience Moraira from the sea sea is to rent a jet ski from the seafront between the marina and Moraira castle and go on a tour of the coastline out to the Cabo de la Nao, a headland that offers fabulous views towards Javea.

Jetski rental costs 120 Eur. for the hour or 70 Eur. for 30 minutes. The excursions are from 9am till 11am and then from 11.30am till 1.30pm. To book in advance you can call 667 57 30 50 (they speak English).

If you prefer activities at a slower pace, why not head to the Ermita de San Juan at El Portet and take one of the scenic walks along to the headland. The historic bay of Portet was once a place of shelter for ships on the Phoenician, Greek, Roman and Arab trading routes. The old watch tower is on the most elevated part of the Cap d’Or (Golden Cape). You may also want to pay a visit to Moraira castle which dates back to 1742 and has a shield from the Royal Borbon family over the doorway.

You can pick up information about the walks and a map from the tourist information office on the outskirts of Moraira.

Moraira's has a weekly market which is also worthy of a visit. Market day is on a Friday, but you can also visit the market in nearby town of Teulada on a Wednesday. Teulada is actually the old town of Moraira and is well worth a visit to see Santa Catalina Church and the Divina Pastora Chapel amongst others. You can also sample some of the regions wines at the San Vicente Ferrer wine cellar. The Moscatel Festival in early September is always worthy of a visit!
